About

I never went to art school. I came to painting late, and entirely by accident — and I think that shows in my work, in the best possible way.

I am drawn to texture and to colour. Not just one layer of it, but many — built up slowly, scraped back, reworked, until the canvas starts to breathe on its own. There is something almost archaeological about the process; the finished painting carries every decision that came before it, visible or not.

I was born in Latvia. I live now between Monaco and the South of France. Somewhere between those two worlds — the cold north and the luminous Mediterranean — is where my paintings come from.

I paint because nothing else quite does what painting does. And I paint for anyone who has ever stood in front of a canvas and felt something shift.
